Art: whether in sound, word or visually has always attracted my attention. As a small boy, I loved to draw and paint. Growing up I always had music around me; in my parent´s car or more often on my walkman. As a teenager, I began to write (shaky, I have to admit) poems. At the age of 17, I started jamming with friends and a year later we formed a band. Sonic Front lasted for more than 10 years, more than 100 concerts, radio airplay, videos and 4 albums. With me as the lead singer and writer of all lyrics. The band came to a crashing halt though with the tragic passing of my best friend Christoph. My love for music and being creative did not stop me and a couple years later I formed a new band. Soon Is Now is the band I am a member of (I also write the lyrics and sing). What does this have to do with photography and my images being shown here? Not so much and yet very much. Being a child of the 80s and 90s I grew up with music always being accompanied by visual expressions in music videos. An art form in itself if you ask me. When writing lyrics I usually have images in my head. When I got my first DSLR a couple of years ago I started photographing my newborn son. But I also experimented with different kinds of photos, trying to portray moments and visions. Just this very year, though, with a new camera, I started to get into photography more seriously. I Studied different photographs and tried to understand what makes them appealing, what might work and might not work. I Watched countless hours of tutorials and went into the field trying to make great shots. Some of them are displayed here.
Since I always shoot in raw, post-processing is an important part of my photography. I try to constantly evolve and am eagerly learning how to improve my skills. I try to make the final image represent the experienced moment as close as I can. And I use digital tools to underline my visions.
And this is where it comes full circle for me: music, lyrics, and photography. It all captures moments through the eyes of an artist. I Try to give it emotion and sense. Sometimes clear and straight out. Other times more open. I leave it to your eyes and mind to wander around and spark your own thoughts and interpretations.
Landscape and cityscape photography are the most fun for me right now. But I want to leave it open for myself: street photography has already been the subject of several shoots. People photography in the future? Why not? As for writing lyrics and writing songs: what sparks an emotion and gets me going, might end up in a picture. It might be a moment to frame.
